Facilities Management Alumni Association – University of Moratuwa hosted their annual get-together for the first time, welcoming all the graduates who recently joined the association as its newest members.

The “Annual Gathering of Facilities Management Alumni Association-2012″ held on 08th January (Sunday) with the participation of all the Facilities Management graduates representing 2005/2006 and 2006/2007 batches from 9.30 a.m. onwards at the Randiya Hotel, No. 389, Koralawella, Moratuwa, Sri Lanka.

World FM Day 2011 Celebrations

Facilities Management Sri Lanka (FMSL) recently celebrated the ‘World FM Day’ for the second consecutive year, along with the global community.

Every fourth Thursday of June (this year it fell on June 23), different FM related associations come together to celebrate their profession. Around the globe most of the FM organisations join in with activities such as luncheons, Twitter debates,seminars and workshopspromoting and raising awareness about FM and its profile worldwide.Global FM members who had arranged for the events to take place were Australia,Brazil,France, Hungary, UK, USA,South Africa, India and Middle East, FMSL said in a press statement.

The day highlighted the valuable contributions sound Facilities Management had made and is making to sustainable global communities. Another highlight was the contributions made to provide productive, safe, healthy and secure work environments.

A new batch of Facilities Management undergraduates joins the FMSL family

Facilities Managers, they are working all over the world, wherever there are buildings, there are people who need to look after them, and keep them working effectively and efficiently.

To follow up the multy disciplinary professional ethics more & more in upcoming years, a new batch of Facilities Management Undergraduates (FM Fifth) joined the FMSL family & they are ready to have a four years of leading edge academic session, bespoke training & variety of learning experiences in dedicated research centers & well-equipped laboratories at University of Moratuwa Sri Lanka.

Industrial training of FM undergraduates

After the successful completion of industrial training of the second batch of FM undergraduates last year, the third batch of Facilities Management undergraduates are currently undergoing their industrial training at various constructed facilities such as commercial buildings, hotels, banks, hospitals, condominiums, etc. commencing from 05 th April 2010. They will be at training for eight months receiving valuable experience to be a competent professional in the future.

Re-accreditation by RICS

The degree program in B.Sc (Hons) in Facilities Management, conducted by the Department of Building Economics, University of Moratuwa has been re-accredited by Royal Institution of Charted Surveyors (RICS). The degree program was first accredited by RICS in 2006 and it was valid until the recent re-accreditation. With this achievement, the degree program is being highly recognized globally and we consider this to be a great victory since there are very few courses accredited by the RICS.

RICS visitation 2010

The representatives of Royal Institution of Charted Surveyors (RICS) will be visiting the Department of Building Economics, University of Moratuwa on 22nd and 23rd February 2010 with the intention of assessing the undergraduates and reviewing their accreditation. Workshops, lectures, presentations will be held with the partcipation of the RICS representatives, lecturers, industrial representatives, etc.

FM Symposium 2009

The undergraduates of Department of Building Economics, University of Moratuwa together with the guidance of the academic staff are working hard these days to make the “fmsymposium *09” a reality on 11th June 2009 at BMICH Main Hall from 4.30 pm onwards. Held under the theme ‘Value Addition to Facilities Management and Quantity Surveying to Economic Development’, the event will mark the inaugural introduction of the profession of Facilities Management in Sri Lanka. Nearly 250 professionals representing the corporate management of most leading organizations in Sri Lanka belonging to a variety of industrial disciplines such as hotels, commercial buildings, hospitals, banks, manufacturing plants, construction firms, etc. will participate in the occasion.
