Facilities Manager is the person responsible for all FM functions in an organisation. With the developments in buildings and infrastructures, the role of Facilities Manager is gaining importance.
The rising costs of occupying buildings and providing services to support business operations have direct impact on profitability of any organisation. The buildings have become more complex and utilize more technology in the present. Increasing legislation to ensure health, safety and welfare as well as to protect the environment has added new responsibilities on companies to manage the workplace.
Therefore, the Facilities Manager needs to play an important role as a central team member of the organisation to provide effective Facilities Management, combining resources and activities. At a corporate level, this will contribute to the delivery of strategic and professional activities while on a day-to-day level, effective FM will ensure a safe and efficient working environment which is essential to the performance of any business, whatever its size or scope.
To succeed in the profession, the Facilities Manager needs to be a hybrid manager who possesses multi skills including technical as well as management skills. He must be strategic, visionary, dynamic and entrepreneurial with the ability to direct and enable change in the organisation.
